Character:
Maria Louisa (December 9, 1751-January 2, 1819), which I have nick-named Clara-Bow, had 14 children in her lifetime, but seemed very much a child herself. She was the queen of Spain and came from a long line of noble ancestry. Growing up surrounded by royalty and getting everything she ever wanted, caused her to become quite spoiled as a child and only worsened as she aged. Her passions turned into greed, it was said that she was a conniving and vicious woman who thoroughly dominated the king. Many of her children were not sired by her husband as other coarse behavior became evident after their imprisonment in 1808.
Description:
Focusing back on her childhood, this dress is perfect for a pretty, pretty princess. The yellow stripe with petite flowered fabric, apparent during the revolution is so light and cheery. Her stomacher is an Échelle of gold ribbons passing onto the sleeves with just a sprig of delightful flowers. The rest of the decorations are created with a white/gold lace adorned with gold trim. A splash of pale pink taffeta has been applied modestly to exhibit the color of the flowers in the dress fabric. Pleating of the stripe fabric is applied to the hem of her petticoat, serpentines across the front and furthermore creates the pagoda cuffs. Yellow Morning Glory’s brightens up this dress as well as the day enhancing the cuffs as well as the choker and hat.
The purse of lace is drawn up in a bow and harbors the gold trim in various designs. Topping off with a Parasol hat, the combination of the pleating and the lace from the dress, along with bows, ribbons and matching feathers makes this picture perfect for a young girl’s tea time.
